This first module is designed to deepen your knowledge of the general labeling requirements for products under FDA jurisdiction.

*We recommend taking this module in combination with the two other modules included in the Basic Training Package. Requirements related to common or usual names, ingredient lists, and the Nutrition Facts label are not covered in this module.

TARGET AUDIENCE: Employees involved in food labeling for the United States, with or without prior labeling experience – BEGINNER LEVEL

PREREQUISITES: None

OBJECTIVES: By the end of this training, participants will be able to understand the various regulatory authorities and identify the basic mandatory elements required for food labeling in the United States.

  • Authorities: Understanding the different regulatory bodies in the United States

  • Label anatomy: Identifying the different parts of a food product label and understanding the placement of mandatory elements

TRAINERS

Solange Adechian, Labelling and Regulation Director, Group Export Agri-Food

Solange Adechian holds a Ph.D. in Biology, Nutrition, and Health. She has over twenty years of experience in regulatory affairs and R&D in the agri-food sector. She has also worked as a consultant for various clients. Today, she brings her expertise to exporting agri-food companies by leading the Labeling and Regulatory Affairs Department at the Group Export Agri-Food.

Khawla Boughanmi, Labelling and Regulation Advisor, Group Export Agri-Food

Khawla Boughanmi holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a master’s degree in quality management. She has over 10 years of experience in regulatory affairs. In France, she gained experience working for a consulting company as well as a company specializing in cosmetics. In Quebec, she first worked as a regulatory affairs assistant at Essences & Fragrances Bell, then as a regulatory affairs specialist at Les Plats du Chef, and finally as a labeling and regulatory specialist at Trans-Herbe. She is now a labeling and regulatory advisor at the Groupe Export Agri-Food.

Jessica Polidori, Labelling and Regulation Advisor, Group Export Agri-Food

Jessica Polidori holds a Master’s degree in Biology and Health, with a specialization in Nutrition and Agro-Valorization in Public Health from the University of Montpelier (France) and Institut Agro Montpellier, as well as a bachelor’s degree in animal physiology and neurosciences from the same institution. She has over 10 years of experience in R&D within various agri-food companies in Canada. For nearly 5 years, she has been working in regulatory affairs at the Group Export.
